The problem is that Kaspersky Antivirus doesn't scan archives when you click on them with your right mouse button and choose Kaspersky Antivirus Scanner from the menu.

 

    

 

I really wanted to help Kaspersky Lab Team to solve this problem, but it seems that they don't care about it.


So, I decided to warn everyone who has Kaspersky Antivirus installed on Windows XP about this dangerous situation.

I think that the problem, that your technical support ignored for a few months, described on site www.kaspersky.da.ru is enough reason, and I think it is time for your software developers to discover that problem and correct it.

On the picture you sent me I can see that your kav monitor is turned on and that you are using Windows Millennium Edition.

Please, do the following:

1. On the Windows XP machine
2. Turn OFF Kaspersky Antivirus MONITOR
3. Click on infected zip file with your RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON
4. Choose Kaspersky Anti-Virus Scanner from THE MENU
It will now "scan" that zip file and it will find nothing infected, it will not even report scanned archives.
I explained it in the attached picture.

I have just reformatted my drive, installed Windows XP on the clean disk, installed KAVpp4 and set it to scan archives. No other programs installed.
The result - KAV can not scan archives (zip files) !
 
As I said, I asked people on newsgroups about this problem.

1. create new folder on c:\ and call it VirZip

2. copy any infected zip to c:\VirZip

3. right-click with your mouse on that infected zip (for instance c:\VirZip\infected.zip)

4. select 'Kaspersky Anti-Virus Scanner' from the rightclick menu

    it should inform you that there are no viruses, although it is infected.

this was right-click scanning of folder that contains infected zip file.

 

 

Another example, to make it very simple:

 

When I right-click with my mouse on infected zip file that is on windows desktop, KAV doesn't report viruses.

On the other hand, when I do complete scanning of my drives, KAV finds viruses in that zip file on desktop.

 

All I want to say is that there is big difference when you right-click scan archives and when you right-click scan folders that contain those archives.

After all, I am not sure that you understand me. This is not about key file,
it is about maybe a big problem in your software. I am just trying to help
you solve it, if it exists.

Whatever version it is, registered or demo, KAVpp4 should ALWAYS (including
rightclick scanning) report infected zip file, not only when you scan
folder.

You may send me, if you want, key file that will expire tomorrow, to test
KAV again with that key to see if it is going to work.

As I told you, a friend sent me those key files and I don't have his
registration.

With the second key file Avp2002oct.key, it says for licence: Kaspersky
Anti-Virus Personal Pro1Y, Expiration Date: 23-Oct-2002.
It doesn't work as demo, because I don't get message "This copy of Kaspersky
Anti-Virus Scanner does not have key file. Kaspersky Anti-Virus Scanner will
start in clipped mode", neither it says that user licence has expired.

But shouldn't it find infected files in demo version like in registrated,
with one big difference - not able to desinfict them?

I am sending you 2 key files I got from friend and 2 report files of
scanning new infected zip. I will describe you how I scanned file:

KAV1 report:
1. rightclick on zip file (c:\virzip\icqflood.zip)
2. select Kaspersky Anti-Virus Scanner (from the rightclick menu)
3. no viruses found - you can see it in kav1.rpt

KAV2 report:
1. rightclick on folder with zip file (c:\virzip)
2. select Kaspersky Anti-Virus Scanner (from the rightclick menu)
3. viruses found - you can see it in kav2.rpt

As you will see in the first report, it says it scanned 1 folder, 0 files
and 0 archives.

I tried scanning with and without key files, tried scanning other zip and
rar archives and results are same. Like it can't examine archives with
rightclick scanning.

But when I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus (AVP) version 3.5 Platinum, with the
same key file, everything is ok, it reports that zip is infected (when I
rightclick scan it).

No, it doesn't work again, and I did as you told me. I tried to scan with
default settings and with my own settings (to scan 'all files' and archives
instead of 'all infectible') May this be problem because I am using
WindowsXP or wrong key file?

I will try redownloading and installing kavpp4 at my friends' computers
using different key files. Is it possible that key file limits some scanning
settings, that diferent key files have different scanning possibilities?

It's very strange.

I try to do it, but didn't find the same as you did.

Try to reinstall antivirus using this attached file, please.

1. First of all, save your key file to the separate directory or to the
diskette.
2. Deinstall our program from Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Program
3. Save the program RemoveKAV.exe (attached) on your desktop and run it .
4. Reboot your PC.
5. Install Kaspersky AV again with your key.
6. Reboot your PC.

Hope that these manipulation will help you.

problem in zip, but in the way new kavpp4 treats folders and archives (to
remind you, when you rightclick-scan zip, kav says it is clean, but when you
rightclick-scan folder with zip kav says it is infected)

I have zip (with infected exe files in it) in c:\mirc. When I scan
(rightclick on it) only that zip, your new kav pro 4 doesn't report
anything. But when i scan whole folder c:\mirc it reports that zip file is
infected. What is the problem? Why it doesn't work with archives?
